Himachal Pradesh: Taps, engines freeze up as Lahaul-Spiti gets the shivers – Times of India
MANALI: Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions continued to prevail in the central and eastern parts of the country as several areas in northwestern parts saw normal life thrown out of gear due to extreme cold conditions.
While Spiti river has almost frozen, the Chenab river has also started freezing in Lahaul.

Not only rivers, taps, milk or cooking oil, but even the engines of the vehicles have frozen under extremely cold conditions in Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal. People in Lahaul-Spiti are having trouble starting the engines of the vehicles in the morning and night time. People are lighting fire under fuel tanks and engines to warm them up. The Himachal Roads Transport Corporation buses are having difficulty plying as engines have started giving up.

The condition is worse at some places, including Spiti, where residents are covering the vehicles with blankets and sheets in the night time to prevent engines from freezing.
The IMD said that cold to severe cold wave conditions are likely to continue in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, and MP during next 24 hours.
